Jeff Deck, an administrative assistant for the Center for Global Change Science, will read short stories. A Creative Writing major in college, Deck has written fiction steadily since. Last year, one of Deck’s short stories appeared in the literary magazine The Furnace Review.

This recital will showcase Smith’s original compositions plus a few of his favorite classical pieces. Smith works as an administrative assistant in Public Relations Services.

Simply Schubert! Nicholas Altenbernd will perform works of Schubert. He is a senior administrative assistant in the Program in Writing and Humanistic Studies.

CONCERT : Ballads for a Scottish Odyssey, featuring Anne Kazlauskas, vocals, with Ishmael Stefanov, fiddle
Kazlauskas and Stefanov will perform traditional and contemporary Scottish music, including slow airs and dance tunes. The ballads specifically were chosen to illustrate Kazlauskas’ path around Scotland during a 2002 trip there. Kazlauskas is a processing assistant for Rotch Libraries, and Stefanov is a research affiliate in RLE, as well as an MIT alumnus.

PERFORMANCE ART : Valarie Poitier
Poitier’s performance of written works about a southern woman is accompanied by her original art, including weavings, paintings, and quilts, which serve as a back drop to the stories. Poitier works in the Office of the Dean for Student Life, where she is an administrative assistant.

Kathryn McKellar, who recently performed the role of Josephine in the Fall 2007 MIT Gilbert & Sullivan Players rendition of HMS Pinafore, will showcase opera scenes for this special ABD performance. In addition to her artistic pursuits, McKellar is an administrative assistant in the MIT Alumni Association’s Finance and Operations Department.
